Dublin, California, as you might imagine, was named after the city of Dublin, Ireland. It’s located about 25 miles from Oakland and the Bay Bridge, making it convenient as a bedroom community for Oakland and San Francisco.

Dublin is the second fastest growing city in California. It’s also one of the most conservative cities in the East Bay, but it’s still quite liberal compared to much of the country.

Dublin is planning a lot of expansion to go with its population growth. High-end stores are being built as is a dog park and many other attractions. Along with Dublin’s newfound popularity comes a pretty high price tag. Like its neighbor, Walnut Creek, median home prices are just shy of $800,000. Rents average more than $3,000 a month.

Dublin is mostly a commuter city, but its largest employer is the Santa Rita Jail, which is the third largest jail in California and the fifth largest in the country. It holds up to 4,000 prisoners and employs more than 2,000 people.

The weather in Dublin is much like the rest of the inland side of the East Bay. It can be quite warm during the summer, with temperatures in the high 80s during the summer and lows in the mid 30s in the winter. Dublin gets about half the rain of the rest of the country, with an average of 262 sunny days per year.
